Major General Richard Harrison


Major General Richard A. Harrison serves as the incoming Commanding General of the 32d Army Air and Missile Defense Command. A native of Sunbury, N.C., MG 

Harrison received his commission through Army ROTC as an Air Defense Artillery (ADA) officer in 1994 from Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), Elizabeth City, N.C. 

MG Harrison has served in a variety of command and staff positions throughout his career. His previous assignments include: 44th Commandant of the U.S. Army ADA School, Chief of ADA, and Deputy Commanding General of the Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Executive Officer to the Commanding General of United States Forces Korea; Executive Assistant to the Joint Staff J-3; Division Chief for the Protection Division, Commander of the 69th ADA Brigade; Assistant Chief of Staff G-3 (Forward) for the 32d Army Air Missile Defense Command (AAMDC); Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 4th ADA Regiment; and Deputy Commanding Officer for the 108th ADA Brigade.  

 

Prior to this assignment, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). 

MG Harrison's military awards and decorations include two awards of the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, three awards of the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, six awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, three awards of the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, three awards of the Army Achievement Medal, the U.S. Army Parachute Badge, the Air Assault Badge, 

the Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge. 

 

MG Harrison holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from ECSU, a Master of Arts in Policy Management from Georgetown University, and a Master of Science in Strategic Military Studies from the United States Army War College. MG Harrison's military education includes the ADA Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Army Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College. 

He is married to the former Tyra Jones, and they have three children, Aliyah (27), Alexa (22), and Collin (17).
