Dr. Michael Hyson

Michael T. Hyson, Ph.D. is Research Director of the Sirius Institute and Research Associate at the Center for Brain and Cognition, UCSD working on issues of perception, cognition, and dolphin communication issues.

Dr. Hyson had many pets including falcons and raccoons and also was interested in space. Researching bats and sonar he found John Lilly’s book Man and Dolphin that showed we might communicate the dolphins. When 14 he lived with dolphins in Texas for a summer. He once swam with the original dolphin who played “Flipper”. Dolphins remain a deep interest. He then got 3 degrees at U of Miami, specializing in neuroscience; followed by studies at Cal Tech, & Jet Propulsion Labs. He was the research director of two companies who tested the first private rocket. After that, he met colleague Star Newland in 1990 and from then till now has been in Hawaii with the dolphins and preparing to integrate them back into our society through things like underwater birth and dolphin therapy. Eg. 300 pregnant Mom’s introduced to the free dolphins so far, mostly due to Kimberly Nelli. See more at http://www.planetpuna.com/hyson
