Dr. Marc Micozzi


Marc S. Micozzi, MD, PhD, a national leader in the field of complementary and alternative medicine CAM, is adjunct professor of physiology and biophysics at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He was the founding editor-in-chief of the first U.S. journal on the subject of CAM in 1994, and he organized and edited the first U.S. textbook, Fundamentals of Complementary & Alternative Medicine, now in its fourth edition.


Dr. Micozzi's career has been devoted to educating policymakers and the general public about the benefits of CAM. He has consistently been committed to helping raise the standards for research, investigation, and practice in this growing field. He is a frequent speaker on CAM topics nationally and internationally, and has organized and chaired conferences with the likes of former US Surgeon General C. Everett Koop and nutritionist/ author Dr. Dean Ornish.


Prior to his work in CAM, Dr. Micozzi was a senior investigator in the Cancer Prevention Studies Branch of the National Cancer Institute from 19841986 and a director of the National Museum of Health and Medicine affiliated with the National Institutes of Health. He also served as executive director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and as executive director of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.


Dr. Micozzi had written or edited 40 books, including with Michael Jawer, The Spiritual Anatomy of Emotion. He views their latest collaboration, Your Emotional Type, as "a breakthrough book that addresses the major problem with effective use of CAM therapies today namely how to select a treatment that is best suited to the individual based on his or her own personality type. This is the next phase in the growth of CAM treatments."
